The simple way to start generating your own electricity.

Our planned two-panel option for households wanting more generation.

A clear three-step journey, designed to make the process easier to understand.
Position the panels in a suitable sunny location using the approved mounting arrangement.
Use only the exact connection method and instructions supplied with the compliant kit.
Use more of your own electricity while the panels are generating.

That was the main aim behind BB Plug In Solar from the start. Traditional solar can feel expensive, complicated and out of reach for a lot of households. We wanted to create a simpler starting point — a way for more people to begin generating their own electricity without having to commit to a full rooftop installation.
BB Plug In Solar is being built around simple products, clear information, transparent pricing and an easy buying journey. No complicated quotation process. No pressure. Just a more accessible way to take a first step into solar.
BB is rooted in family and a belief that cleaner energy should be easier for ordinary households to understand and access. We want to make that first step feel simple, practical and achievable.
Simple choices. Clear guidance. Accessible solar.
Plug-in solar is a small solar electricity system using solar panels and a microinverter. The microinverter converts DC electricity from the panels into AC electricity that can be used by the home. Customers should only use a complete compliant kit and follow its exact instructions.
Great Britain now has a framework for compliant plug-in solar products. BB will only offer a product once the exact complete kit and its compliance position have been confirmed.
No. The product needs to be treated as a complete compliant system. Randomly combining panels, inverters, cables or adaptors is not the approach BB will support.
The current plug-in solar framework limits the AC output of the microinverter to 800VA. The total DC rating of the solar modules may differ depending on the exact approved product configuration.
DNO notification forms part of the plug-in solar process. We are working through how BB can make this as simple as possible for customers and will confirm the exact service before launch.
A plug-in product is designed around a simplified connection route, but the property and electrical circuit still need to be suitable. Where there is any doubt about the socket, wiring or circuit condition, professional electrical advice should be obtained.
Only use the connection arrangement specifically permitted by the manufacturer of the exact kit. BB will not recommend improvised extension leads, adaptors or substitute connection equipment.
This depends on the approved mounting system and the property. Suitable garden or ground arrangements may be possible. Customers also need to consider shading, wind loading, permissions and any property restrictions.
Potentially, but permission may be required. Renters and leaseholders should check their tenancy or lease terms and obtain any necessary consent before attaching or installing equipment.
Grid-connected microinverters normally stop supplying electricity when the grid is unavailable. The exact behaviour will depend on the product specification.
Savings vary with panel position, shading, weather, electricity tariff and how much solar energy you use while it is being generated. BB will provide realistic estimates rather than promising the same saving to every household.
BB's initial launch is focused on simple solar-only kits. Battery storage is a separate product category and is not part of the initial plug-in solar offer.
